Flowers that leave room for dinner
Plan the table as a place people will use.
Before choosing the size of a centrepiece, ask what else must fit on the table: serving dishes, glasses, water, menus and place settings. A beautiful arrangement should not make conversation or dinner awkward. Try a small mock-up with the actual table dimensions if you can.
Ask your florist about seasonal availability and sensible substitutions. Compare arrangements by what is included, not just the number of stems. Containers, delivery, installation and collection can affect the total as much as the flowers themselves.
Use the stem budget tool for a material estimate if you are arranging flowers yourself. Allow time for conditioning, transport and cleanup. Check venue rules before introducing candles or hanging decorations, and agree who takes arrangements home or disposes of them.
